Goings On

It is pretty amazing how fast time can fly by when you are busy, distracted, lazy, and unimaginitive. However today being my day off (i.e. the Sabbath) with no distractions or obligations I thought that perhaps I should update my blog.

The last several weeks though busy haven't been overly exciting. No big events to exclaim over and write about have happened, so mostly this post will be filled with odd little anecdotes.

Two Sunday ago was an interesting day. The Saturday night before I had stayed up till midnight baking for the coming Easter preparations, first of which was a sunrise service. Because of this I only got less than five hours of sleep. Even though the first service was at a strange church the connection with fellow believers was very encouraging. Because of where I work and the size of my church I have a tendency to feel alone as a christian and it is good for me (and all of us) to be reminded that that isn't true. A few hours later at my regular church we had a great breakfast together and then the usual worship service. Unfortunately my lack of sleep decided to kick in right then and to my great embarresment I have no recollection of the meeting because I was otherwise engaged :) Oh yes, I should also mention here that I also threw a raw egg at my sister that morning. If it had been hard boiled, as I supposed it was, she would have caught it rather handily. As it was, she simply shattered the shell and sent egg guts flying everywhere. Thankfully the day ended on a much higher note with an Easter dinner at my cousin's house.

I also found out that people still like me. Within the last several weeks I have recieved three different invitations to various events. A wedding, a dinner, and a volunteer opportunity. Needless to say I was honored to accept them all. Isn't it affirming to recieve that sort of thing in the mail? In these days of near-instant communication when something comes in the mail it almost lends it more weight because more time and expense have been taken to let you know that you are thought of.

I'm finding also that however hard I try to live spartanly my possesions just seem to keep growing. I just joined up with a dvd club and recieved my intial shipment of eight. Sometimes entertainment can be such a burden.

Last weekend I helped out at my church which was hosting a youth weekend. Overall it went extremely well. There were about 15 girls and 4 boys. I felt rather bad for the boys being outnumbered so badly, but they all seemed to have great time anyway. :)
I was one of the team leaders during the time and I have to say that we pretty much cleaned up due to having a very skills balanced team. I also got to watch 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' again. I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

That weekend was also a big first for me. It was my first side job as an electrian! Even though I was simply taking down some old florescent lights and putting up some paddle fans in a slightly different location it was a pretty big deal. I now know that these last two years haven't been a complete waste and I have actually learned a little bit of electrical theory and practical application.

Another area of firsts for me has been in preparing to travel to my friend's wedding. All of my previous travel experience has been arranged by others, and now I am having to do it for both myself and my brother. Even though it is rather stressfull and challenging it is also enjoyable at the same time. I know that I need the experience and that I won't get it any other way except by doing it. Also this way, once it is over I will have that much more confidence to do even more on my own. I made it to Nova Scotia, I'm (hopefully :) ) going to make it to florida, and who knows what after that!

And that is more than enough about me. So I will finish by saying that I now have a new carpooling buddy. He is very quiet and usually keeps to himself. The only thing that I have learned about him so far is that his name is Oscar and that he is exceedingly generous. Everytime I get into the car he greets me with a present. I think he might have low self esteem issues, not that I can hardly blame him. To put it nicely he won't be winning any beauty contests soon, if ever. I think he gets car sick real easily as well because he is almost always green looking. He has a great sense of rythm though, and is always making noise whenever I play music. I say making noise because he has this odd way of banging his legs together and making a tinking sound. In case your wondering just what kind of fellow he is, he agreed to let me take his picture so here is Oscar.

'Nough said. And as a great way to end this post, here is a quote from Jane Austen's novel, 'Northanger Abbey'. "A woman, especially, if she have the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can." Aren't the classics great? :-)
